Financial Aid

Division I

Contact the St. Lawrence University Financial Aid office (Call 1-800-355-0863 or e-mail finaid@stlawu.edu) to get more detailed information about NCAA financial aid rules.

• Athletic scholarships are initially awarded or up to one academic year. In Division I, they may be renewed annually up to a total of five years of athletics aid within six years after initial enrollment in college. Please keep in mind that athletic aid can be reduced or not renewed at the end of each year.

• Athletic scholarships are awarded in a variety of amounts, ranging from full scholarships (including tuition, fees, room, board and books) to partial scholarships.

• Student-athletes must report other scholarships they receive to the university financial aid office. The total amount of financial aid a student-athlete
can receive and the total amount of athletic aid a team can award is limited. These limits can affect whether a student-athlete may accept additional financial aid from other sources. Student-athletes may ask financial aid officials at the university about other financial aid they may be eligible to receive and about the impact of that aid on athletic aid limits.

An athletic scholarship is a tremendous benefit to most families but student-athletes should have a plan to pay for those college costs not covered by a scholarship (e.g., travel between home and school).  Student-athletes should also consider how they will finance their education if their athletic scholarship is reduced or canceled.

Division III

Division III colleges and universities do not award financial aid based on athletics ability, but student-athletes may be eligible to receive academic scholarships or need-based financial aid.  Contact the St. Lawrence Financial Aid Office for more information.
